My book Between the Shades of Gray is based on how a Jew felt while they were picked up and sent to camps. They talked about how the missed not being treated differently because of what they believed in. This ties into present day discrimination. During the Holocaust the Jews were separated from others just because of what they believed in. They were also treated different and looked at different. This is like the civil rights movement, African Americans were treated different and put into slavery. This kind of stuff still happens to minorities, looked at and treated different from the majorities.

The book that i'm reading is called Between the Shades of Gray. The book is about a really interesting and important time in history, the Holocaust. In the book, a young girl named Lina was picked up from her home by the NKVD, they also picked up her mother and brother. They got thrown in a truck and off they went to the camp. This is related to the Holocaust because that's how the jews were treated. "Have you ever wondered what a humans life was worth? That morning, my brothers life was worth a pocket watch."
They would take bribes to let little children to go back with their families. They didn't have respect for them they only cared for power and rewards. In North Carolina cruelty towards animals is illegal under state law. North Carolinian's can report abuse by owner, kennel, pet shop or animal shelter. You can report it to the North Carolina Attorney General’s Animal Welfare Hotline. People who contact the hotline can also share their concerns about animal cruelty. I'm personally interested on this topic because i don't think anything or anybody should be put in pain or killed for no reason. Everyone is effected because if someone who abuses their animals live in your neighborhood they can hurt your animals as well. so if you see this happening PLEASE contact the hotline.
Immigration is a big thing in the United States. But these people didn't come to U.S for no reason. Here i will tell you why people immigrated to the U.S. One of the biggest reasons was poverty. People came to the U.S to escape poverty, it'll be because of failed crops to hazardous weather conditions they didn't have much to survive. People came for freedom of religion. Some came because a relative was here, Italian men would come first, get a job, house, and money before the rest of the family came. Irish females came to the U.S to save money and bring the rest of their siblings here. And Ellis island was known as "The Kissing Post" because so many loved ones reunited there. And some came not to stay here. Yes, its true, some would come here just to save enough money from work to start their own business and move back to their native countries. And now you know, the real reason why immigrants immigrated to the U.S.

In my book Between the shades of gray ended in a great/horrible way. She ends up surviving through the holocaust but her parents did not. He father got shot and her mother died of starvation. My book matters because it shows the point of view of a little girl inside the camps, it shows us the amount of pain she and other families had to go through. The thing that you need to take from this book is to cherish what you have now, because it can all go away in a blink of an eye. Even in our world today, most people act like the situation that they are in, good or bad, that it's going to stay that way. But things change for the better, or for the worse. |
